One of the most incredible parts of the PacRim journey is having my preconceptions about these countries shattered. My reality is challenged every time the plane lands. My years of schooling had subconsciously instilled a negative connotation with China in me, falsely constructing it as a country where there is no room for creativity. Perhaps this speaks to remnants of the red scare permeating my textbooks and lectures, but I was not expecting to see art on the streets of Beijing and Shanghai. May the pieces of my blown mind never be put back together! China is bursting with incredible art on the streets, in fashion, and in architecture. Ornamentation is the status quo and it is stunning. China’s beauty caught me off guard and these photographs are my attempt to pay tribute to the awe and incredulity I unexpectedly experienced every day.
